Thrill to Grill Slot
As the name suggests, the Thrill to Grill slot game by NetEnt features a food-inspired theme in both the visuals and the bonus features of play. Released in 2023, Thrill to Grill is different from most online casino games due to the square-shaped playtable and high payline count, along with unique imagery in and around the playgrid.
Thrill to Grill Game Design
The setting of play in Thrill to Grill is very surprising considering the title and the theme that NetEnt has opted for, as there is no kitchen, grill, or barbecue setup on screen. Instead, gameplay is held on a river island with fast-flowing currents visible to the left and right of the small beach backdrop in front of which the symbols in play can be seen. A rocky outcrop to the left of the grid features the Re-Spin bonus meter, whilst the Thrill to Grill title is displayed above a fiery design in the top-right corner of the screen.
Players who are interested in food-based slot games may like Bankin’ More Bacon or Fruit Shop Megaways, which are available at PlayStar.
Thrill to Grill Mechanics
As mentioned, the play format in Thrill to Grill is quite original, with the developers opting for a 5-reel, 5-row playgrid here containing 25 randomly determined symbols per spin. There are 3,125 fixed paylines across this grid where players can potentially land combinations of 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols to trigger base game prizes, as in most modern online slots. Along with the base game symbols and prizes in Thrill to Grill, there are plenty of bonus mechanics we will cover shortly.
Along with the brilliant game mechanics in play, the Thrill to Grill slot features cross-compatibility due to the HTML5 software that NetEnt included in its development. This means that players with smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop PCs can experience the same gameplay in Thrill to Grill and many modern slots at PlayStar Casino with a device of their choosing.
Thrill to Grill Bonus Features
There are various bonus mechanics that may be triggered at random in the Thrill to Grill slot game.
Wild Symbol
Like in many modern slots and Slingo games, there is a Wild addition to the Thrill to Grill slot. This symbol has the ability to make or increase combinations in pay by substituting for any of the base game symbols when it lands in a position to do so.
Collection
At random, on any spin of the reels, a 3x3 position in the center of the playgrid is activated as the ‘collection area’, something that remains in place throughout free spins, but more on that later. When this occurs, a random base game symbol is chosen to be the ‘Grill’ symbol that, once landed in the collection area, will remain within this 9-space grid for the rest of the feature. A respin is triggered in Thrill to Grill each time 5+ Grill symbols are collected, as can be seen via the Re-Spin bonus metre to the left of the reels.
Free Spins
Players can land 5 scatter symbols in a single spin to trigger the Free Spins bonus in Thrill to Grill, which awards 3 free spins to play through using the bet stake of the triggering spin. In this bonus, the spin count is reset back to 3 every time a Grill symbol lands in the collection area. It is possible to trigger 1 of these 3 bonus modifiers during the free spins:
- Expand - An expand symbol landing above or below the collection area can cause said collection area to expand to that symbol's position for the remainder of this feature.
- Slap - A random Grill symbol onscreen collects all other Grill symbols in the collection area and receives a multiplier value determined by the number of Grill symbols it has absorbed.
- Extra Spin - Resets the spin count to 4 and increases the total potential respin count to 4 for the remainder of the feature.
