    How to Play Mississippi Stud

Texas Hold’em may be the most famous poker variant, but there are other strains of the game that are bigger in the online casino market. Mississippi Stud is one such variant, and it’s a popular one-player way to play the classic card game.

Unlike some other casino games, Mississippi Stud requires some knowledge and skill. Lucky for you, we’ve put together this handy guide to give you the lowdown on everything you need to know to start playing Mississippi Stud poker today.

    The Basics of Mississippi Stud

Before you get started, you need to know the basics. From there, you can practice and work towards a level of mastery. It’s like building a house – you need to get strong foundations in place first. So, here’s the essential info you need to get started.

    Mississippi Stud Payout Table

In Mississippi Stud, you’re not playing against a dealer or any other players. Instead, all you have to do is make a hand with the cards available to you. Check out the table below to see what the payouts are. These payouts are based on how much you decide to stake in the game.

    Mississippi Stud Rules & Fundamentals

Now you know the payouts, what about the hands themselves? It’s crucial for you to know how each hand is made up before you can go on to think about how likely it is for that to happen:

    • Pair – Two cards of the same rank
    • Two Pairs – Two sets of two cards of the same rank
    • Three of a Kind – Three cards of the same rank
    • Straight – Five cards running in consecutive rank order.
    • Flush – Five cards of the same suit
    • Full House – Three of a kind and a pair
    • Four of a Kind – Four cards of the same rank
    • Straight Flush – Five cards of the same suit running in consecutive rank order
    • Royal Flush – The highest form of Straight Flush: 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace of the same suit.

In Mississippi Stud, you will be playing to make one of these hands. If you land one, you’ll get a payout regardless of how many people are playing alongside you.

    Getting Started

Getting started with Mississippi Stud is easy, but becoming a master takes time. We suggest that you take it slowly and start with small stakes until you know what you’re doing.

To start playing, you’ll need to enter a Mississippi Stud game by clicking the thumbnail. You’ll be face to face with a dealer, but they won’t be playing against you. They’re simply there to deal the cards and flip over the community cards in the center.

    Gameplay: Round By Round

A round of Mississippi Stud starts with you placing your ante. This is basically your entrance fee to the hand, and you’ll need to pay to play. You can choose how much you want to bet, but bear in mind that any bets that follow will need to match or multiply this amount.

The dealer will deal out two cards to your hand and three cards face down on the table – these are known as the community cards and can be used by other players. Your job is to see if you can make a five-card hand using the five cards available to you.

After you receive your cards, you have a chance to bet to see the next card or fold.  This will either be 1X, 2X, or 3X your ante. The dealer will then turn over one of the community cards. At this point, you’ll have a good idea of whether you’ll be able to make a hand. Indeed, if you’re lucky, you may already have a pair or three of a kind.

You can then bet again to see the fourth card and the fifth card. At the end of the round, if you have made a hand, the dealer will pay out based on the paytable above.

How to Win at Mississippi Stud

If you want to win at Mississippi Stud, you need to get familiar with the chances of making a hand based on your starting cards. There are certain pocket hands that are better than others and have the chance to make more hands when combined with the community cards. For example, Ace and King suited would be a great starter hand, as it has the chance to make a flush or a straight. Seven and two is considered one of the worst hands to begin with.

You may also end up getting dealt a pair to begin with, which would guarantee a win in the end. At this point, it’s wise to bet big as you have the chance to make better hands such as two pair, three of a kind, full house, and even four of a kind.
